This is a new version of the owl I did a while back, that I've done for the upcoming Sydney Comic Art & Drawing Exhibition at the ArtSHINE Gallery, which I'll put more information up about soon.

Trying out my new tablet

So, I got my first drawing tablet over the holidays, and this was my first experiment with using it for colouring. I posted the line work for this last year, and I'm pretty happy with the greater level of control I got with how I could apply the colour.

I've been sure, for a while, that a lot of my stuff works better with a splash of colour. This picture freaked out my wife, so I'm taking that as vindication.

Also, I did a pure monochrome version, that I think will work well as a t-shirt print.

Been a while since I posted some new art, but I've been really busy getting towards a move to the far side of the planet. It wasn't until I spent a few weeks there that I got time to do some drawings, so, umm here's some mad birds from the Sydney Easter Show...

Windsor (the Australian one)

One thing that's slightly strange about going around Australia is the number of places that were named after British towns by the European settlers. I went past a Richmond, Croydon and many others, including a small country town called Windsor, whose main claim to fame is the flabbit (flying rabbit), a creature created by a hoaxer and which now adorns their posters and flags. I also did these sketches of the river that borders the town, a colonial house, Willy Wagtails and a boat out on the river and a lorikeet.

Recent sketches

As I mentioned, I've been busy and working on more writing than art lately, so this blog has been a bit quiet. I just thought I'd put up some sketches and stuff I've done while I've been out and about.

A sketch of one of the flower girls from the wedding of my cousin Paul and his wife Lyndsey. Also, someone reading Harry Potter on the train.

Birds in Regent's Park. I was pleasantly surprised to see Storks and Pelicans as I was passing through, as well as the usual geese.

I visited the Tate Modern, but only ended up sketching out of the windows across the Millennium Bridge. The man in the wheelchair was on there busking on a steel drum, and had taken a break to chat to the other guy. Below is a very rough sketch of St Paul's.

Australian sketches

These are sketches and drawings I did while I was on holiday in Australia in December 2009. As you can tell, I was quite taken with the wildlife there, as well as the architecture.
